Lewis & Clark College


Established in 1867, Lewis & Clark College is a private liberal arts college in Portland, OR. It offers 29 majors leading to bachelor’s degrees and has three colleges: the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Law and the Graduate School of Education and Counseling. Students have the option to live in themed residence housing, including a multicultural dorm and a substance-free dorm. Lewis & Clark offers about 36 international programs, and more than 60% of students study abroad. Between 1997 and 2012, Lewis & Clark students won a bounty of top scholarships, including 50 Fulbrights, 10 National Science fellowships, 17 Goldwaters, four Trumans and a Rhodes. The college competes in NCAA Division III athletics, and the school mascot is the Pioneers. This year’s commencement speaker was Marian Wright Edelmen, founder and president of Children’s Defense Fund. Local attractions include Powell’s Books, the largest bookstore in the country, and the Portland Art Museum and Forest Park, which spans 5,000 acres.
