Occidental College


Occidental College is a private liberal arts college in Los Angeles, CA. The college’s proximity to Hollywood makes it one of the most filmed campuses in the U.S. Founded in 1887, Occidental offers 31 majors from 40 departments and programs, ranging from theater to cognitive science. Oxy has produced 10 Rhodes Scholars and is one of the nation’s leading Fulbright feeder schools, with 72 students winning the grant since 2003. Oxy students must go through the Core Program, which includes first-year seminars and writing exercises, and live on campus for their first three years. Approximately 75% of students go abroad for study, research, internships or fellowships. The college’s U.N. program sends up to 16 students to New York to take courses and intern at a U.N.-related agency while the General Assembly is in session. Approximately 25% of students comprise Occidental’s 21 NCAA Division III teams. Famous attendees include President Barack Obama, actors Ben Affleck and Luke Wilson and athlete and politician Jack Kemp.
